nnCron is as a lightweight an application as they come. The download weighs in at little under 1MB; to install the software on your Windows-powered computer you need only 1.6MB of free space on your hard drive. I think you will agree that even the lousiest configuration can afford that.

This nnSoft-developed application may be lightweight, but the functionality it provides is quite the opposite. Perhaps this will put things in perspective: nnCron is an advanced and quite powerful scheduler, scripting tool and automation manager. With nnCron you can for example schedule applications to run at a specific time, you can schedule messages to be displayed at a specific time, you can run tasks as a specified user, and you can set your computer to shutdown or restart at certain intervals of time.

Let’s assume for a moment that you want to restart your computer every day at a specific time. After installing nnCron, you need only right click the icon from the System Tray. From the menu that appears you then need to select New Task. Once the “New Task” window appears, you need only give the task a name, select when the computer will restart (for example daily at 23:59) and you’re done. The computer will automatically restart each day at one minute to midnight.

There is a long list of actions you can perform thanks to nnCron. Here are the ones I found most interesting:
- Run a task as if a specific user started it.
- Play a sound at a specific time
- Show or hide a window at a specific time
- Shut down an application at a specific time
- Set up reminders
- Emulate keyboard and mouse input
- Automatically restart the computer after fatal errors

For running automatic tasks, nnCron is a lightweight yet powerful application that will get the job done.
